Abstract: The paper presents some aspects of the analysis of nonlinear viscoelastic buckling of beams and plates on elastic foundation. A brief account of frequently used simplifications in analytical and numerical analyses of the corresponding initial - boundary value problem is given. A finite element formulation using Sander's functional is introduced in which Haisler's first order sei fcorrecting solution method and time integration according to Wilsons e-method is used. Results from applications to some simple structures are presented.
