Abstract: A shear box was specially designed and used for tests on the flow behaviour of mush ice. The dependencies of shear stress with regard to normal stress, shear velocity, and ice structure were investigated and compared for three types of ice artificially produced from fresh water respectively urea doped water. The resistance of two simply-shaped bodies moving through mush ice was determined in a second test program to establish the influence of the shape on the resistance.
