Abstract: The paper deals with some investigations carried out by the Leningrad Water Transport Institute and aimed at ensuring the operation of hydraulic structures (locks, piers, slip-ways) during the prolonged navigation period. Some analysis of ice difficulties arising in hydraulic structures under severe weather conditions and ways of fighting these difficulties are also considered in the paper.
