Abstract: The structure of an ice ridge was modelled, and the compressible, frictional and cohesive behaviour of the ice-block mass was studied by means of shear, compression, kinematic, piling and so-called end plane tests. The mass had a cohesion of 11.3 N/m2 and an inner friction coefficient of 1.078. The fact that the piling angle, porosity and dimensions of the ice blocks corresponded to those in natural sea ice ridges appear to justify the assumption that it behaves in a similar way.
