Abstract: In recognition of the potential benefits of an extended season, the United States Congress in 1965 authorized the U. S. Army Corps of Engineers, the principal water resources management agency of the Nation, to investigate and conduct a limited study of the feasibility of means of extending the season. This study completed in 1969, concluded that present technology is sufficiently advanced to make winter operations on the Great Lakes-St. Lawrence Seaway System physically feasible.
