Abstract: The interaction of ridged ice with vertical and cone-shaped piers of marine hydraulic structures is described. The ice load on a vertical pier should be examined as a summation of forces imposed by solid and disintegrated ice. In the case of a cone-shaped pier, the ice load due to solid and disintegrated ice is to be considered consecutively. Design relationships are proposed.
