Abstract: In order to increase water power for ice passing through and establish normal conditions for navigation, the canalization of the Kura and Araks rivers was carried out. This was done by means of pioneering bed establishment with its subsequent erosion by water power. The results of field observations and theoretical generalizations are given in this paper. A large area of the river was embraced by the field observations, the efficiency of canalization on water level reduction (on energy increase) and the new bed stabilization were revealed, and the relation between the canalized bed and hydraulic elements of the stream was established.
