Abstract: This paper studies the piling of ice on lakeshores. It is found that ice piling is not a static, but a dynamic event. Ice piling on shore occurs when ice floes, under the action of wind over an open water fetch, ram into the shore or shorefast ice. The kinetic energy of the ice floes is converted into the potential energy of the ice piles.
