Abstract: Hydraulic model experiments may be done either by using actual ice in a cold room or an ice analogue. In both cases difficulties, are bound to arise in the determination of scales. The effect of distortion is investigated on the basis of the non-dimensional relation of Pariset, Hausser and Gagnon concerning the stability of the ice cover. Distorted models do not yield numerically correct values.
