Abstract: Pipelines that deliver water, oil, gas, or any other liquid across a river are usually buried beneath the riverbed. Floods can lead to scouring of the bed of these pipes, which may expose them to flow. The flood may cause local scouring under the pipeline. Experimental research has been performed on scouring of the bed beneath the pipelines in the apex section of meandering rivers. In this regard, several experiments were conducted with pipes of different diameters. The flume is 60 meters long, 1.2 meters wide and 50 cm high. It consists of three consecutive arcs with an arc angle of 110 degrees and a relative curvature of 1.8, and the pipe is located in the middle arc. The results show that by placing the pipe in the channel, the Reynolds shear stress and velocity distribution are changed. As we move towards the outer arc, shear stress decreases gradually. When the pipe is placed in the channel, the shear stress on the bottom and walls is extremely low and near zero around the pipe, with an increase in the upstream side and an opposite increase in the downstream side. Water height variations in channel and pipe diameter are investigated. Results showed an increase in maximum scouring depth with increasing height and diameter.
