Abstract: In the Shimeno area of the Yodo River, a new Wando restoration plan is underway to make it easier for people to approach the river and create fish habitats. In this study, we summarized past citizen activities and analyzed riverbed fluctuations and fish habitats in the newly constructed Wando area after restoration. In the Shimeno area, citizens initiated activities, such as the removal of invasive alien plants and river cleanup in 2006. Now, through the collaboration of various actors, events are held to familiarize people with the river. The upstream side of the Wando was predicted to experience sediment deposition after flooding. However, it was found that sediment deposition could be controlled by installing a groyne at the opening. This suggest that the new Wando could provide temporary refuge for fish during flooding.
