Abstract: The Arabian Sea is believed to be protected from tsunamis due to the lack of historic tsunami records and rare tsunami occurrences in the past. Therefore, the key coastal development including lifelines on the East coast of the United Arab Emirates (UAE) was not designed for tsunami loads and has not been assessed against future tsunamis. In this study, experimental studies were conducted on a 1:50 scale to assess the stability of the breakwaters of Fujairah Port against tsunamis. The breakwater was safe up to 3 m of tsunami height, but when the tsunami height increased from 3 to 5 m, the percentage damage to the leeside (portside) of the breakwater increased compared to the seaside. The breakwater suffered severe damage at a 6 m tsunami height.
