Abstract:
China has 2,693 natural lakes with areas over 1.0 km2; about 23.5% of these lakes and 25.9% of their area are located in the middle and lower reach of the Yangtze River (MLYR) and eastern coastal area. All these lakes are shallow and freshwater lakes with high productivity, often suffering from nutrient enrichment and harmful algal blooms.
