Abstract:

River ice has progressed to become a matured field in hydraulic engineering, with research advancements in the fifty-plus years since the first Ice Symposium in Reykjavik. This paper will review new developments in river ice research in the last two decades since the 2006 Sapporo Symposium, including topics on freeze-up, cover breakup and ice jam flooding, and sediment transport and channel morphology. Issues that have not been satisfac- torily resolved or need reexamining will be discussed.
