Abstract:

Ultrasonic deicing is an efficient method to remove ice layers from the surface of structures. In this paper, a numerical method for ultrasonic deicing based on peridynamics is proposed. Firstly, we developed a harmonic analysis method based on peridynamics and we verified the effectiveness of the method in two-dimensional and three-dimensional problems. Then we used this method to study the problem of ultrasonic deicing of iced aluminum plates. Using harmonic analysis, the deformation of the ice layer and aluminum plate is obtained by apply- ing high-frequency vibrations to the iced aluminum plate. Based on the shear stress deicing criterion, we can also quantify the effect of ice layer detachment. By employing this method, we discuss the influences of the actuator position on the deicing effect. The outcome of the numerical simulations show that the method proposed in this paper can be used to study the deicing of aluminum plates.
