Abstract: A stream flowing in alluvium deforms its bed surface so as to form ripples, dunes, bars, etc., and commonly deforms also its channel as a whole so as to create, in plan view, meandering or braiding patterns. One can say that, in general, an alluvial stream undergoes a variety of hydro-morphodynamic processes leading to the emergence of a variety of alluvial forms that can be either bed or plan forms (da Silva and Yalin 2017). This lecture focuses on meandering and related alluvial processes (free alternate bars, for the sake of simplicity henceforth referred to simply as alternate bars).
