Abstract: Water Infrastructure (WI) is vulnerable to the effects of Climate Change (CC) that can disrupt its functionality; thus, it needs to be adapted to CC. This adaptation needs to be performed following the EC’s Technical Guidelines on “Climate-proofing Infrastructure” in combination with guides that are specific for WI, such as these issued by the Joint Assistance to Support Projects in European Regions (JASPERS). JASPERS’ guides focus mainly and in detail on aspects related to climate hazards without examining at the required detail the engineering aspects of the WI, which are often based on the relevant hydro-environment research performed in Universities and Research Institutes, unless these are part of the official EC documents. The effective application of these guides in WI requires the utilization of this research in combination with experts’ opinion. In this work, indicative works of the hydro-environment research on WI are presented and discussed in an integrated and systematic manner and suggestions for future research are made.
