Abstract: There are significant knowledge gaps regarding the potential benefits of holistically planned vegetation management along agricultural brooks and rivers. We found that both the agricultural water management and the riparian plant and beetle diversity benefited from adopting a two-stage channel design with abundantly vegetated floodplains. Benefits for pollinators were gained by sowing flowering species while water quality and flow conveyance could be notably enhanced by mowing ~20-40% of the floodplain area.
