Abstract: A pilot study has been carried out at the Vertical Slot Fishway (VSF) of the Cataloluk Small Hydropower Plant (SHP), which is located in the Ceyhan River Basin in Tekir River in Turkey. 3D velocities and turbulence quantities were collected at several points in the pool with Acoustic Doppler Velocimeter (ADV) for various discharges at the Cataloluk fish passage. The pool depth was measured continuously throughout the year by using an Ultrasonic Distance Sensor (UDS). The UDS monitoring data revealed that pool depth is highly variable during operation. The study characterizes the flow and turbulence in a vertical slot fishway for different discharges and pool depths. The study presents measurements of the velocity components in three directions, covering a range of Reynolds numbers between 6.6x105 and 1.1x106. The monitoring data revealed that the flow velocities were not changed considerably with the increase of Reynolds number, but the velocity fluctuations increased considerably in the pool with the increase of Reynolds number. The findings of the study showed that the increasing and decreasing discharge may have an impact on the passability of the vertical slot fishway regarding the variation in turbulent kinetic energy.
