Abstract: Effective groundwater management depends on balancing extraction and recharge, particularly as climate uncertainty grows. Understanding the correlation between teleconnection patterns, such as the North Atlantic Oscillation (NAO), and groundwater levels can be a valuable tool for accurate forecasting and adaptation efforts. This study investigates the impact of the NAO index on groundwater levels in the western coastal mainland of Portugal, examining the relationship between the NAO phases and groundwater levels in unconfined detrital aquifers within the Western Meso-Cenozoic Hydrogeological Unit (WU).
