Abstract: The Crato Multipurpose Hydraulic Scheme is a structuring project for the economic and social development and sustainability of the territory of Alto Alentejo in Portugal. It arises from the need for an alternative capable of guaranteeing the resilience of public supply to the populations, even in periods of prolonged droughts. Due to its characteristics, the creation of this strategic storage will also be crucial for the implementation of agricultural techniques included in the Innovation Agenda for Agriculture 2030, with the establishment of a new irrigated area with high levels of water efficiency. The project also intends to contribute to the reconfiguration of energy production in the region, with the installation of floating photovoltaic panels and the production of electricity from a small hydroelectric plant.
