Abstract: Vegetation as one of the fundamental river system components modifies river processes at various scales, and thus, it plays an important role in effective river engineering and management. To expand knowledge in this research field, this study aimed to investigate the effect of riverbank and floodplain vegetation on the rising water level considering various vegetation coverage. To achieve this objective, the process- based numerical model Delft3D Flexible Mesh was used to simulate the hydrodynamics of the Meuse River, the Netherlands, as a case study. Various static riverbank vegetation scenarios were implemented to represent seasonal changes in vegetation roughness. Moreover, additional scenario with changes in floodplain vegetation was applied to check the importance of this area during rising water levels and flood events.
