Abstract: The operation of a tidal lagoon enables a substantial exchange of water between the impounded basin and the external coastal areas, leading to alterations in water exchange and tidal flushing. It is imperative to comprehend the influence of tidal lagoons on water renewal for effective environmental impact assessment and optimal design, particularly designing the location of turbines and sluice gates, and development of such projects. In this study, the impact of various operational procedures of the Swansea Bay lagoon (SBL) on regional water exchange and renewal capacity was investigated.
