Abstract: The clogging process and sediment properties have direct influence on hydrological behaviour and pollutant removal of permeable pavements (PP). Laboratory experiments simulated and analyzed the response of permeable asphalt under different sediment loading conditions. Permeability and efficiency in water quality treatment in effluents were measured. Sediment surface loads of more than 1 kg/m2 caused significant reductions in permeability. Sediment with higher content of organic matter reduce infiltration ratios and increase runoff flows and volumes. Permeability recovery after vacuum cleaning varied between 8% and 100% of original permeability. The efficiency of the slab for pollutant retention was 96% for COD, 76% for TN, 79% for TP, and 98% for TSS.
