Abstract: For the validation of vegetation approaches against data of near-natural floodplain vegetation, a laboratory scale model was setup. In contrast to existing investigations, special focus was set on the transferability of the hydraulic conditions to natural rivers with large floodplains. To model flexible vegetation, special silicone elements were developed. The vegetation was scaled using the hydrodynamic density for rigid vegetation and the leaf area index for flexible vegetation. The collected data offer the possibility to validate vegetation approaches for natural conditions and thus strengthening their applicability in practice.
