Abstract: In modelling flooding and drying processes at the very shallow water depth, for example at intertidal floodplains, marshlands or wetlands using two-dimensional shallow water models, the evaluation of accuracy in both mass balance and flow resistance is of utmost importance. However, these conditions are hardly achieved without proper treatment using suitable wetting and drying algorithms. This study is conducted to analyze the physics capture of the shallow water equations as well as the conservation of mass of its wetting and drying numerical treatments at moving boundary problems. With suitable algorithms for the solution of wetting and drying processes, mass and momentum should be conserved, and the physics should be accurately captured.
