Abstract: This study investigated the effectiveness of a triangular splitter plate in mitigating scour around bridge piers. Computational fluid dynamics (CFD) simulations using FLOW-3D software were conducted for two piers: the first equipped with a triangular splitter plate and the second unprotected. The results demonstrated that adding a triangular splitter plate to the first pier significantly reduced scour depth at the second unprotected pier, the plate’s aerodynamic shape efficiently redirected flow and minimized turbulence around the second pier base. These findings suggest that incorporating triangular splitter plates in bridge pier design can enhance structural integrity and longevity in sediment-laden watercourses.
