Abstract: This study explores the relationship between the runoff coefficient (C) and the curve number (CN) across 41 watersheds in the Department of Cauca, Colombia. The objective is to establish a correlation that leads to a straightforward equation for rapid estimations, thereby enhancing the understanding of runoff dynamics in the region. To achieve this, data was gathered from digital elevation models, geological soil type maps, and land cover maps, all processed using GIS. Through supervised classification, the study determined hydrological soil groups and terrain slopes. The curve numbers were calculated according to Soil Conservation Service (SCS) guidelines, while the runoff coefficients were estimated using the ASCE Manuals and Reports on Engineering Practice. By integrating these methods, the study aims to produce results that accurately reflect the actual conditions of the watersheds. A correlation coefficient of 0.708 from multiple regression analysis indicates a significant relationship between the runoff coefficients, with validation showing a 16% difference compared to radar flight data from one of the watersheds in the study area.
