Abstract: To estimate the pressure distribution surrounding model cobble, two pressure sensors are embedded in a model cobble and placed in a river bed. A field measurement campaign within a cobble-bed river during an artificial flood is implemented and a time-series of pressure changes on the upstream and downstream side of the model cobble are analyzed in order to determine information regarding turbulent fluid forces acting on bed material during an artificial flood. Running average upstream pressure is higher than downstream pressure. The difference between upstream and downstream pressure is related to the form-drag acting on bed material. Fluctuations in upstream pressure are substantially larger as compared to downstream pressure, especially during high flow periods
