Abstract: 410 groups of annual average grain size data of suspended sediment from seven major hydrological stations in the lower Yellow River from 1962 to 2020 were collected, and various methods were used to fit the cumulative curve of grain size distribution. It was found that the Weibull probability density function (PDF) can better fit the cumulative curve of grain size. Compared with the lognormal distribution function, Weibull PDF has the obvious advantages of high accuracy, stable parameters, simple form, no integration, and is more practical. The Weibull PDF can be regarded as a novel grain size distribution model.
