Abstract: In recent years, the tidal gate project in the estuary delta can effectively reduce the flood inundation loss caused by natural disasters such as storm surge, and plays a more and more important role in the safety protection of coastal cities. However, the tidal gate constructed in the early stage of our country has the functions of tidal blocking, flood control and waterlogging drainage, meanwhile less consideration is given to the balanced functions such as shipping and ecology. With the development of economy and society, inland navigation in coastal and estuarine areas is ushering in unprecedented development opportunities. The demand for the new construction and transformation of tide gates taking into account shipping and ecological landscape is becoming stronger and more urgent. Building navigation structures on the left or right sides of the built or newly-built tide gate is a way to solve the navigation of the tide gate. Due to periodic reciprocating flow, the flow conditions in the approach channel and entrance area of the ship lock on one side of the tidal reach are very complex. If the layout of the lower approach channel of the navigation structure of the inland water control project is adopted for the ship lock of the tide gate, the cross flow in the approach channel and the entrance area will seriously exceed the standard and cannot meet the requirements of the navigation flow conditions in the inland river navigation standards. Therefore, it is very necessary to study and put forward the layout of ship lock approach channel on one side of tidal reach. This paper used the methods of 2D and HD models to study the layout of the lower approach channel under reciprocating flow and navigation flow conditions. The results showed that the water flow conditions in the lower approach channel in the tributary bank wall with the arc type and the guide wall with structural type of floating dike has strong adaptability and are easy to meet requirement of the ship navigation. In order to reduce the impact of reciprocating water flow on ship navigation safety, it is advisable for ships to adopt a curved in and out approach to enter and exit the main and tributary waterways.
