Abstract: The Tokushima and Kochi coasts facing the Pacific have been heavily damaged by repeated Nankai trough earthquakes. In these regions coastal area, there are many sections with the same Rias coast as the Sanriku coast, which was heavily damaged by the 2011 Tohoku Earthquake. On the other hand, it is known that in the Great East Japan Earthquake, many shrines were spared from the tsunami. Shinto shrines with an old history are important public spaces that have walked along with the local society, and its current distribution may be considered to indicate the results of flooding by past tsunamis. Based on such social background, in this study, we examined the spatial distribution of shrines in vicinity of coastal area both in Tokushima and Kochi prefecture and the tsunami damage risk of the Nankai Trough earthquake.
