Abstract: An experimental and analytical study of the hydraulics of two layer exchange flows in and beyond the limit of arresting barotropic net flow is presented. These arrested wedge flows are a limiting case of the inviscid, one dimensional, two-layer theory. The two-layer equations are modified to include the effects of friction and flow nonuniformity. A boundary layer model, along with the resultant Coriolis coefficients, was used with the modified hydraulic theory to compare with laboratory experiments.
