Abstract: This paper presents a calibration chart for the Preston tube for the measurement of shear stress on smooth as well as approximately uniformly rough boundaries. The analytically developed calibration curves have been compared with the authors' experimental observations on sand-paper and hemispherical roughnesses and other existing data in the literature.
