Abstract: A theory has been developed for the transition from mild to steep slope. The theory leads to a prediction of the course of the water surface on the transition stretch. It has been necessary in an approximate manner to take the curvature of the water surface into consideration, but the influence of the friction loss has been neglected on the short transition stretch. Experiments have been carried out. and there is a fine agreement between theory and experimental investigations.
