Abstract: Flood inundation processes can occur anyplace within the catchment, besides the river mouth, under heavy rainfall conditions. In the present paper, a data driven flood inundation approach is implemented to estimate flood inundation paths by using distributed rainfall from satellite and Digital Terrain Models (DTMs) obtained by remote sensing techniques such as Li DAR and SRTM. The rainfall data used as forcing condition enables the numerical model to determine the rainfall-runoff process at the same time that the momentum and continuity Saint-Venant equations are solved. Some results show that there are large blind spots in the traditional approach of flood inundation modelling assessment, where flash flood-prone areas were found in certain parts of the catchment. Therefore, it is possible to estimate flood paths in order to get a better understanding of the flood inundation processes.
