Abstract: In recent decades, Cua Lo Inlet in Quang Nam province of Vietnam is experienced serious problems of deposition and erosion. Based on the long-term analysis of the satellite images, it has been figured out that one of the main causing mechanisms for this problem is the elongation of up-drift sand spit which leads to the severe erosion of the south bank of the river mouth. In this study, detailed numerical simulations of hydrodynamic and sediment transport at Cua Lo Inlet are conducted using the DELFT3D model. The ebb current and wave-induced current during the Northeast monsoon season are the main dynamic factors for sand spit elongation and inlet morphological changes.
