Abstract: The practical limitations of the use of pollutant transport models to assess the impact of sewage discharges are addressed. A set of best practices regarding data collection are proposed. A case study is fully described in order to illustrate the limitations when some of those practices are not strictly followed. A discussion is undertaken in order to analyze the robustness of the conclusions in spite of the limitations. Conclusions are drawn as tips to identify limitations.
