Abstract: Landslide dams are caused by large-scale slope collapse. Predicting their failure is important because hazardous flooding may result downstream when landslide dams burst. Accurate prediction of landslide dam formation, i.e., the height and length using landslide maps that show two-dimensional figures but do not consider landslide depth, is needed to counter sediment disasters caused by landslide dams. This study established relationships between landslide dam formation and the topographical and geological characteristics of the region using past landslide dam failures for more accurate prediction of dam structural integrity. Finally, we demonstrated the prediction accuracy of the proposed model using data on the height and length of recent landslide dams.
