Non-Point Source Pollution Modeling Using Soil and Water Assessment Tool in the Be River Catchment, Vietnam

Abstract: Agricultural pollutant runoff is a major source of water contamination in the Be River Catchment. The Soil and Water Assessment Tool (SWAT) hydrology, sediment, and nutrient (T-N and T-P) transport components were assessed for the Be River Catchment. The simulated streamflow and water quality variables (TSS, T-N and T-P) were calibrated and validated against observed values by using SWAT-CUP model at the Phuoc Hoa station. The results of model calibration and validation showed that the SWAT model could estimate streamflow reasonably and simulate TSS, T-N, T-P fairly satisfactory for the study area. Based on the simulation results, the spatial distribution of non-point source pollution were identified in the catchment. This study was expected to provide a useful tool and reference for non-point source pollution quantification and to support water resource management and planning in the Be River Catchment.
