Abstract: It is necessary to collect river flow data including intake and drainage for efficient distribution and management of river water, and to set up the effective operation plan for water supply facilities like dams etc. Objectification of flow data is not reliable enough in Republic of Korea because practices like; indirect measurement methods like sluice operation, and reliance on user’s voluntary report on total intake, are currently employed. To prepare the real-time river water use plan, in this study the system is linked by image recognition, water lever meter and flow measurement. Depending on real site conditions, the river discharge assessment including intake and drainage is constructed, and operated in test section of Yeoju-Ipo located in the Han River mainstream. UVM (Ultrasonic Velocity Meter) and ADVM (Acoustic Doppler Velocity Meter) were applied as the direct measurement methods, and the relationship was assessed between two methods (Direct and Indirect) by comparing using power, pump operation time and quantity of water intake. Plans were prepared in form of a conversion formula application. The direct and indirect measurement methods were tested on the agricultural water discharge from the test section, the application was reviewed and specific measurement method was presented. To collect the real-time river water usage data, it is possible to apply the UVM, ADVM, stage-discharge and power-discharge relation. Considering the flow meter inadequacy with measuring intake water characteristics of river water, the presented method is selected. Economical and accurate data could be collected if the presented method is applied to collect real-time river water use data.
