Abstract: A numerical model, SIDO-UK (Sediment Intrusion and Dissolved Oxygen) has been used to investigate the impacts of fine sediment on salmonid spawning success. Initial results for the UK have indicated good predictability compared to field measurements. Egg survival is highly sensitive to the discharge and suspended sediment concentrations. However, there are several factors where model accuracy could be improved, including (a) the discretization of the habitat structure; (b) the parameters used to represent egg characteristics; and (c) the representation of fine sediment characteristics.
