Abstract: Long wave evolution has a well established record of success. The issues are clear, and the numerical algorithm is a secondary concern. Short wave (Boussinesq-style) evolution is developing, but rather less established. The experience of long wave evolution should be exploited. The issues are identified as variations on those identified for long wave evolution, and resolved.
