Abstract: A novel formulation of a two-dimensional mathematical model for the description of the hydrodynamics and the transport of passive contaminants in meandering channels is proposed. The improvement is obtained modifying the momentum dispersion terms due to the secondary currents. Such formulation is conceived to improve the consistency of the mathematical model with the high-order accurate discontinuous Galerkin method used for its integration. Two experimental laboratory data sets are used to test the capability of the model to reproduce the steady and unsteady pollutant transport.
