Abstract: ABSTRACT: Solids transport above a mobile bed was studied for the condition of high bed shear (the upper-plane bed regime). Laboratory tests in different enclosed pipes were carried out and additional appropriate data collected from the literature in order to relate the solids flow rate with relevant parameters characterizing a flow of a solid-water mixture. The database covered flows of a broad range of solids fractions of different grain sizes and densities. The data analysis suggested that the solids transport formula of the Meyer-Peter and Muller type was appropriate for relating the solids flow rate with the flow conditions at high bed shear in enclosed conduits provided that the empirical coefficients of the transport formula were not considered constant. Instead of maintained constant, the coefficients were related to the properties of the transported solids through the particle Reynolds number. The paper discusses a structure of the proposed solids transport formula and compares formula predictions with the collected experimental data.
