Abstract: The characteristics of a submerged hydraulic jump are studied numerically with the unsteady Reynolds-averaged Navier-Stokes equations and the k-aturbulence model. The volume of fluid method (VOF) is used for" tracking" the free surface. Computed results (variation of free surface, maximum velocity, friction coefficient and the distribution of pressure, velocity components U and V, shear stress and turbulence kinetic energy at various stations) are compared satisfactorily with experimental results of other investigators (Long et al, 1990) and computations performed by the more approximate offset control volume method (Long et al, 1991).
