Environmental Management of the Maryout Aquifer

Abstract: The north side of the lake Maryout reservoir is bound by the Mediterranean sea, The east and South by the Nile Delta reservoir and the West Side by limestone stratum. The lake consists of mainly three basins. The main one is at the north of an area about 6000. 00 feddans, the north western basin is about 3000. 00 feddans, while the southern basin is 7000. 00 feddans (most of the southern is reclaimed) and the Northern basin are about 9000 feddans. The main sources of the surface water for the lake is the Omoum Drain and its tributaries and the Nubariya canal in addition to the four pump stations for sewer water. The main outlet is El mex pump station. The water level in the lake is–2. 3 (97. 7)
