Abstract: The paper deals with the determination of the water duty reflecting nonreturnable irrigation water losses. The water duty is estimated from the water balance relationship and practically reduces to calculation of evapotranspiration from the irrigated fields. Presented is the evapotranspiration model to calculate the evapotranspiration from the irrigated fields. Standard observational data of agrometeorological stations and leaf area index are used for calculations. Average of many years values of the evapotranspiration from the irrigated fields and the water duty for 45 agrometeorological stations of the forest-steppe and steppe zones of the European territory of the Former Soviet Union for the spring wheat crops have been obtained. Among these, for the 6 agrometeorological stations reflected all variety of natural conditions of the forest-steppe and steppe zones there have been determined values of the evapotranspiration and the water duty for individual years within a period over 20 years. Sketch distribution maps and statistics (average values, average squared deviation, coefficient of variation, probability curves) of the evapotranspiration and the water duty are available.
