Abstract: An universal curve is introduced in order to estimate maximal runoff on mountain and floodplain rivers, the base of their construction is the idea of idealizing a parabola, to the river cross section. The estimate of runoff is achieved only starting from the reading on field the high level the water and the width of the free surface water. The principal objective of this curve is expedite the task of the gauging field, above all into places of difficult access, during and after extreme events. It is applicable to whichever natural stream, mountain, floodplain and transition zone. The dependability is verified and interval application of this curve, through comparing their estimates, by a total of 1, 097 direct gauging, at 12 rivers of the big coast of the state of Guerrero, for the events maximums of the period of 1975 to 1997.
