Abstract: We discuss a numerical sediment routing model for simulating quasi-steady, nonequilibrium, graded sediment transport. Validation uses data from graded sediment transport experiments in a trapezoidal laboratory flume. The theoretical background of the model is described, including a new algorithm for sediment routing, which separates different modes of sediment transport (suspension, rolling, saltation). The model uses a modified Meyer-Peter-Muller sediment transport equation, including Hunziker’s hiding function. Comparisons are made between model predictions of the laboratory flume data of graded sediment transport rates and the grain size compositions in degradation (static armour) experiments.
